So welcome Bonnie McCoy into the ranks of children and grandchildren of prominent blues artists who are carrying on their legacy. From East St. Louis, Illinois, she is the daughter and niece respectively of singer-guitarists George and Ethel McCoy. They in turn were nephew and niece (or possibly younger half-siblings) of blues brothers Joe and Charlie McCoy and thus were related also to Joeís one-time wife Memphis Minnie. Thatís quite a family blues heritage for anyone to have! But Bonnie didnít simply rediscover this heritage recently and decide to capitalize on a famous surname. She grew up with the blues, hearing them constantly around the home and at family gatherings that turned into music sessions.

Bonnie has absorbed Ethelís blues singing simply by growing up with it. To this she has added the quality of her own strong voice and a talent for composing catchy original songs in a modern style.

George McCoy, 1979
