These live sessions begin with Bukka playing
his National steel guitar and he holds nothing back on his
own Hello, Central, Give Me 49. And he performs in
the style of Charlie Patton on Gray-Haired Woman. The
balance of his performance was recorded on Furry's Gibson
guitar during a party at Mr. Lewis' pad, and gives us the
chance to hear Bukka play a wooden guitar as he did when he
made his great recordings for Okeh in 1940.
Furry is in fine fettle with his Gibson, as
he pumps out one inspired tune after another, including
Skinny Woman, Mama's Fish Blues, Kassie Jones,
When I Lay My Burden Down and more and even a playful
waltz, Let Me Call You Sweetheart. The joking and story
telling banter among Bukka, Furry and friends is priceless.
"They were both in good form for your recordings. In
fact, these are some of the best recordings of Bukka from
his rediscovery period." -David Evans, Professor of Music,
University of Memphis.
"What
a recording! All the tracks are great, it's a real blues
party!"Jean Luc
