Blues is the roots of Arcola: listening to
blues 78's and playing them on my traditional blues radio
show on KRAB radio in Seattle led to interviews with blues
musicians such as Bukka White, Furry Lewis, Carl Martin, Babe
Stovall and others.
Furry Lewis invited me to his home in Memphis
in 1968 for a week of music and fun, where the Arcola Party!
CD was recorded. This experience was the inspiration to record
more blues artists in the South.
Babe Stovall, a Mississippi blues singer and
guitar player who met and was influenced by Tommy Johnson.
Recorded in New Orleans in 1968, with liner notes by David
West, Arcola Records
What a wonderful down home session you recorded,
congratulations! What a pleasure to hear Sunnyland, relax,
playing like he was at home, a great thrill. About Big Time
Sarah, I like also a lot the way she sings during this recording.
To sum up, once again with this new release Arcola Records
is still at the very top! Jean

A fine choice of repertoire and some some very
interesting interview segments. Slim was an important artist,
and this will be a welcome complementary CD to his other work.
